Google introduced three new Gemini models today. The releases expand the Flash series with specialized tools built for AI agents. The new models are Gemini 3.6 Flash, 3.5 Flash-Lite, and a security-focused version called 3.5 Flash Cyber, which comes with the CodeMender security agent.
Gemini 3.6 Flash
Google designed 3.6 Flash based on developer feedback to serve as the standard model for production AI agents. The company reports several improvements.
- It uses 17% fewer output tokens than 3.5 Flash according to the Artificial Analysis Index, and benchmarks like DeepSWE show up to a 65% token reduction.
- Pricing is lower at $1.50 per 1 million input tokens and $7.50 per 1 million output tokens.
- Coding precision is higher, with DeepSWE scores rising from 37% to 49% and MLE Bench scores increasing from 49.7% to 63.9%.
- Computer use capabilities improved from 78.4% to 83.0% on OSWorld-Verified. Computer use is now a built-in client-side tool in the Gemini API and Gemini Enterprise.
Early adopters like Hebbia and Harvey already use 3.6 Flash for multimodal document parsing, chart analysis, and report drafting. The model includes enhanced Frontier Safety safeguards against chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and cyber threats. It also features stronger jailbreak resistance and fewer false refusals for legitimate requests.
3.5 Flash-Lite for High-Throughput Workloads
Google built 3.5 Flash-Lite for teams facing latency and cost constraints.
- It generates 350 output tokens per second, making it the fastest model in the 3.5 series.
- Pricing is set at $0.30 per 1 million input tokens and $2.50 per 1 million output tokens.
- It performs significantly better than 3.1 Flash-Lite. Terminal-Bench 2.1 scores increased from 31% to 54%, GDM-MRCR v2 improved from 60.1% to 72.2%, and GDPval-AA v2 rose from 642 to 1140.
The new 3.5 Flash-Lite outperforms the base 3 Flash model on several coding and agent-based benchmarks, including SWE-Bench Pro (54.2% compared to 49.6%) and OSWorld-Verified (74.0% compared to 65.1%). It now includes computer use as a built-in tool and allows developers to adjust "thinking levels" to balance speed and depth based on the task.
3.5 Flash Cyber and CodeMender
Google addressed cybersecurity needs with 3.5 Flash Cyber, a specialized version of 3.5 Flash built to find and fix software vulnerabilities. When paired with the CodeMender multi-agent system, it achieves competitive performance on the CyberGym benchmark.
Due to the dual-use risks of security tools, Google is limiting access to this model. 3.5 Flash Cyber will be available exclusively to governments and trusted partners through a pilot program. This approach aims to give security teams a head start in patching critical vulnerabilities before they are exploited.
What is Next
Google mentioned that Gemini 3.5 Pro is currently in partner testing and will launch to a broader audience when it is ready. The company also confirmed it has started its largest pre-training run yet for Gemini 4.
